Would you do a maternity shoot?
It’s today’s entry into the #31daysofblogging . Over the next week I'm going to step back from all-weddings-all-the-time and talk a little bit more about family photography.
I’ll be honest - I did not want to do a maternity shoot when I was pregnant with Isaac. There were several reasons for this, but the first one was that I just never really felt comfortable and confident.
But here’s the secret: much like in any other portrait session, it’s all about the angle. You want to show off that shape, because in the wrong angle, a lovely pregnant mama can just look flat and bigger than she’s used to. Sometimes one side will be much better than another (did you know that most baby bumps aren’t symmetrical?). The key is to keep trying different options. Done right, maternity shoots can be sweet reminders of this fleeting time.
A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of photographing my beautiful sister, who is expecting her little boy at the end of the year. I think she nailed it.
So - would you do a maternity shoot while pregnant?
