Emily+Eric:Engaged::Peninsula Park, Portland

I love these two! I’ll admit it – I’m a sucker for PDA-filled shoots, and these two are just so clearly smitten with each other. Weirdly, I met Emily *years* ago when I was still in college, up in Portland visiting my sister. Emily was friends with my sister, and we all went to see the Sea and Cake in concert. Years later, after multiple moves across the country on both of our ends, she finds me while planning her wedding without realizing that she knew my sister. Small world time, folks.

Emily chose Peninsula Park for their engagement shoot, and I have to say that it’s one of my new favorite places in town. I think I might even like it better than…gasp! The big rose garden in Washington Park! It’s just so lovely and old fashioned and European flavored, and it was just exploding in color at the end of June.
These two are getting married next month on the beach in Manzanita – can’t wait!

Colleen+Tim: Wedding – Abernethy Center, Oregon City

There was a lot of hand-wringing and sky-watching the morning of Colleen and Tim’s wedding, as we were just getting into the late May/”June-uary” weather spell that’s left most of the Pacific Northwest wondering what we did to be punished with all this rain. Both of them very much wanted to hold their ceremony in the beautiful outside gardens of the Abernethy Center, instead of inside in one of the ballrooms. At some point, everyone just had to trust that it would hold off, and what a payoff! We even had 10 minutes of lovely sun during the ceremony; just a perfect touch. After a sweet, touching ceremony (goodness, I was even tearing up!), everyone headed inside to celebrate and share the love, even as the rain started pouring down shortly after.

Lately I really have been feeling like I have the best job in the world, and this shoot was a perfect example. I get to hang out with great people, coo over ridiculously cute babies, and just capture all that love on camera. I’ve known Viktoria and Justin for a couple years now, and am just so thrilled for them and three month-old baby Genevieve.

Sarah and Jake on Sauvie Island

When Sarah approached me about a doing a portrait session during her pregnancy, she said that she definitely didn’t want a “maternity” shoot, so instead we opted for a simple portrait session with her husband on a late fall day on Sauvie Island. We had to wait a bit for the light to get just right as it grew chillier, but I think it was worth it for those ten minutes or so!

What can I say about my adorable niece and nephew? I’m so glad to be able to visit with them on a regular basis and photograph their crazy energies! My dad requested a photograph of my niece in her full ballet getup, so this is for him!

Photographing Kylie’s senior portrait session was so much fun – her and her mom Tracy brought such fantastic energy to the shoot and couldn’t help busting out in fits of giggles on many occasions. It was the perfect, gorgeous autumn day to be shooting in downtown Portland, too!

Jacqueline has been one of my best friends since the 9th grade, and her son Max is ridiculously adorable. I was so excited to photograph the two of them when I was in Michigan a few weeks back. How ridiculously cute is he?

Nicole+ Erik:: Post-wedding Shoot

I’m pretty excited about today’s post. I had approached Nicole a few weeks ago about getting together for a portrait session after her intimate wedding on the Coast, and was so thrilled when she was up for it. We headed out to Battle Ground, Washington to shoot, and had a great time wandering through the woods (with Erik’s trusty machete and axe in tow…). I brought along my trusty Hasselblad to get a nice mix of film and digital. I’m such a fan of this kind of shoot for several reasons: it’s perfect for any couple that didn’t get the time for a long portrait session on their wedding day, and it’s a great excuse to get in that wedding dress one more time (and how gorgeous is Nicole’s Elizabeth Dye gown?).

In which Amanda meets the Hasselblad

I’ve had the itch to shoot some medium format for awhile, so I was thrilled when my good friend Manda agreed to model for me and my trusty Hasselblad. I’m going to be incorporating some medium format work into my wedding repertoire, and was hoping to try out a few things. We set out for Hoyt Arboretum, which, aside from being a gorgeous setting, truly does make you feel as if you’re in the middle of nowhere, even if you can occasionally hear the Burnside traffic just a mile or so away.
I have to say that when I got the film scans back yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised at how little processing I had to do in Photoshop. Yes, it has been that long since I’ve had a film work-flow, but I think I’ll be using it more and more as a supplement to the digital work. It definitely made me remember what I love about photography in the first place.
